Werder Bremen: president Hubertus Hess-Grunewald to step down as managing director at end of 2022

Hubertus Hess-Grunewald, president of SV Werder Bremen's association (Sport-Verein) and a member of the board for its commercial structure (GmbH & Co KGaA), "will step down as managing director (of the latter) at the end of the year," announced the Bundesliga club on 31/08/2022.

The change in Hubertus Hess-Grunewald's role at Werder is part of a more general overhaul of the German club's governance with a new organisation that will be put to a vote by the 40,000 members at the general assembly on 20/11/2022. "By giving up my joint role as managing director of the business and president of the e.V, I would like to do my part in ensuring that we move into the future with modern structures of government," said Hess-Grunewald.

"Along with this decision, I would also like to promote the results of the structural commission. We envisage that the president will have an important role in the supervisory board in the future and thus can maintain the influence of the e.V. and its members as the main shareholder," added Hubertus Hess-Grunewald.
