World Athletics: a turnover of $82.8m (€73.1m) in 2021, including 47.5% from Olympic dividends

World Athletics posted a turnover of $82.8m (€73.1m) for the financial year 2021 (from 01/01 to 31/12/2021), the period during which the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games were held, announced the International Federation on 06/09/2022.

This is an 87% increase compared to a turnover of $44.2m (€36m) in 2020. Excluding the $39.4m (€34.8m) Olympic dividend received as a result of the Tokyo Games, the body's 2021 turnover is $43.3m (€38.2m), a 2% decrease compared to 2020.

World Athletics' commercial and media revenues accounted for 88.3% of the $43.3m, including $14.7m (€13m) from broadcasting rights. Expenditure increased by 26% to $52.6m (€46.5m) due to the hosting of a greater number of events. 45% of spending was on competitions and events ($23.5m or €20.7m). 108 sports events were organised in 2021, with a total of 10,748 participating athletes.
