NBA: partnership with Sorare (NFTs) and the launch of a fantasy basketball league

Sorare, a startup specialised in NFTs featuring players, has partnered with the National Basketball Association to launch a fantasy basketball league from 2022-23, announced the French sportstech unicorn valued at $4.6bn (€4.6bn) on 07/09/2022.

"The first officially licensed, free-to-play digital collectible-based fantasy basketball game, will be released this fall for the NBA's 2022-23 season," said Sorare, which currently has two million active users in 185 countries.

"The game will provide fans a new opportunity to interact with the league and compete through a unique fantasy gaming experience that offers users the ability to create a lineup of NFT-based digital collectibles representing their favorite players and teams to earn points based on the real-life performance of NBA players. As part of the partnership, Sorare will have the rights to utilise official NBA league and team logos across its products," explained Sorare, which raised the largest sum of funding in the history of French tech ($680m/€580.2m) on 21/09/2021.
