The Barclays Premier League clubs want to reconsider the possibility of playing one of the 38 league matchdays abroad, according to the British press on 08/10/2014. The matches of the day would be held in different regions of the world where English football generates revenue, such as Asia, the United States and Australia.

This day abroad would likely not be implemented before the 2019-20 season, as the tender for media rights of the 2016-2019 cycle will be launched in early 2015.

42% (€3bn) in broadcasting rights from abroad in 2013-2016

  • International broadcasting revenues the Premier League exceeded £2.4bn (€3bn euros, or €1bn per season), for a total of £5.5bn (€7bn) over the 2013-2016 period.
    • International broadcasting revenues make up 42% of total audiovisual revenues of the league.
  • 37% of this amount, or £650m (€824m) are from Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia, according to the BBC 13/08/2014.
