United Kingdom: death of Queen Elizabeth II (21/04/1926 - 08/09/2022)

"We have sent our deepest condolences to our president, HRH (His Royal Highness) the Duke of Cambridge (Prince William) and the whole of the Royal Family following the passing of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. We join our nation in mourning her loss," announced The Football Association on 08/09/2022.

The FA has had a president from the British Royal Family since 1939. Prince William, the eldest son of Prince Charles (who became King Charles III on 08/09/2022), has held this position since 2006, when he succeeded his uncle, Prince Andrew. The FA also has a chair in charge of running the day-to-day business: since 01/01/2022, the role has been held by Debbie Hewitt, the first woman to hold this position.
