FIFA: 9,717 international transfers for a total of €5bn (+29.7%) during summer 2022 transfer window

Men's professional football clubs spent $5bn (€5bn as of 09/09/2022) on international transfer fees in the 2022 summer transfer market (01/06 to 01/09/2022), an increase of 29.7% compared to 2021 ($3.72bn/€3.14bn), according to FIFA in a report on the last transfer period, published on 08/09/2022.

9,717 international transfers - of which 8,033 (89.5%) involved free transfers - took place over the period, a figure that is also up compared to 2021 (8,364 transfers). English clubs had both the highest number of player movements (442 incoming and 515 outgoing transfers) and the highest amount of money spent on players ($1.8bn/€1.8bn). French clubs, on the other hand, generated the most transfer-related revenue ($617m/€617m).

In women's football, the number of international transfers rose by 14.4% with 684 deals recorded, 36 of which resulted in a payment from the acquiring club ($1.2m/€1.2m in total).
