Spain/Liga F: referee strike causes postponement of Matchday 1 of the women's professional league

None of the eight games on Matchday 1 of the first Liga F season, the new Spanish women's professional football league, could be played on Saturday 10 (four matches) and Sunday 11/09/2022 (four matches) due to a lack of referees.

"The referees and assistant referees of the women's first division wish to communicate our unanimous decision not to referee any match in the current conditions of uncertainty of our employment and economic situation," said the Spanish Federation's Referees Technical Committee on 08/09/2022.

"In the context of a new professional competition, we believe that women's referees must have minimum conditions for the exercise of our activity within the professional competition. It is not conceivable that the refereeing establishment is the only one that remains on the sidelines of a growth that we consider to be just as necessary," read the statement.
