Manchester City FC (Premier League) have spent €1.06bn to compose their 2022-23 squad, according to a study by the CIES Football Observatory published on 05/09/2022. No other club has invested so much in acquiring players. Meanwhile Borussia Dortmund (Bundesliga) have spent €388m building their current squad, as the two clubs prepare to face each other in Group G on Matchday 2 of the 2022-23 UEFA Champions League group stage at the Etihad Stadium (Manchester, ENG) on Wednesday 14/09/2022 (kick-off at 20:00 local time, 21:00 CET).

Over the last ten years (from the 2013 summer transfer window to that of 2022), the English club has posted the third highest total amount invested in transfers among the clubs of European Top 5 leagues, with €1.806bn spent, versus €886m over the same period for the German club (17^th), according to another study by CIES published on 02/09/2022. Manchester City's squad is valued at €1.040bn according to the website Transfermarkt on 13/09/2022, while Borussia Dortmund's is worth €483m.
