Tennis: Roger Federer to retire from Grand Slams & the ATP Tour on Sunday 25/09/2022 after Laver Cup

"The Laver Cup next week (Friday 23 to Sunday 25/09/2022) in London (ENG) will be my final ATP event. I will play more tennis in the future, of course, but just not in the Grand Slams or on the Tour," announced Swiss tennis player Roger Federer (41) on 15/09/2022.

"The past three years have presented me with challenges in the form of injuries and surgeries. I've worked hard to return to full competitive form. But I also know my body's capacities and limits, and its message to me lately has been clear. I am 41 years old. I have played more than 1500 matches over 24 years. Tennis has treated me more generously than I would ever have dreamt and now I must recognise when it's time to end my competitive career," said the Swiss player.

Followed by 40.5 million fans on social media (Instagram, Twitter and Facebook), Roger Federer and was ranked as the seventh highest-paid athlete in the world by Forbes magazine in May 2022, with $90.7m (€85.9m) in revenue.
