CAN: Morocco request postponement of the 2015 tournament due to the Ebola virus, CAF not interested

Morocco, host country of the 2015 CAN (African Cup of Nations, from 17/01 to 08/02/2015), has requested a postponement of the tournament "due to the Ebola outbreak," said CAF (Confederation of African Football) on 11/10/2014.

"CAF has registered the request and wishes to state that there are no changes of the schedules of its competitions and events," said the confederation, which stated the issue would be discussed at the next meeting of the Executive Committee on 02/11/2014 in Algiers (ALG). "It must be noted that since the first edition in 1957, the Africa Cup of Nations has never witnessed a deferral or a change in schedule," added CAF.

  • A meeting between CAF and the Moroccan Ministry of Youth and Sports is scheduled in Rabat (MAR), the day after the next Executive Committee meeting of the African Confederation, on 03/11/2014.
  • 8399 people infected with the virus were reported in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia, according to WHO (World Health Organization), on 10/10/2014.
  • 4033 people died at 10/10/2014.
