Ballon d'Or: L'Équipe & Peace and Sport create the Sócrates Award for player solidarity initiatives

The L'Équipe group is joining forces with the Monaco-based NGO Peace and Sport to create the Sócrates Award, which will reward male and female players committed to solidarity initiatives, announced the French group on 21/09/2022. The new award will be presented at the Ballon d'Or 2022 ceremony organised by France Football (L'Équipe group), which will take place at the Théâtre du Châtelet (Paris, FRA) on 17/10/2022.

"Inspired by the career of the Brazilian doctor and football player Sócrates Brasileiro Sampaio de Souza Vieira de Oliveira, the Sócrates Award will identify the best solidarity actions carried out by committed champions. The media exposure of football and footballers implies assuming social responsibility: with the creation of the Sócrates Award, this is what the L'Équipe group, Peace and Sport and the family of the former captain of the Brazilian team wish to highlight," explained L'Équipe about the award which is intended to be maintained long-term.
