Italy: "We need support to build stadiums" (L. De Siervo, Lega Serie A)

"Needless to say, we don't have the revenues of LaLiga Santander or the Premier League, we need to have the tools to reach those levels. To close the revenue gap, we need support to build stadiums and fight piracy, which has cost over €1bn in the last three years. Do you have any idea how much talent we could have kept or attracted to our league?" said Luigi De Siervo, CEO of the Lega Serie A, during the Social Football Summit 2022 event (Rome, ITA), 27/09/2022.

"If we want to host the European Football Championships worthily, or something more, we must first have the stadiums. We missed the opportunity when we were on top of the world to establish ourselves as a market leader. We are paying for that today. There is an infrastructural problem. In this country we must ask the government to appoint a commissioner for stadiums, this is the only way to overcome the bureaucratic obstacle.
