AFCON 2025: CAF strips Guinea from hosting due to a lack of infrastructure, Algeria announces bid

Zefizef Djahid, president of the Algerian Football Federation, has announced that his country will be a candidate to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on 01/10/2022, the day after CAF decided to withdraw Guinea from organising the event on 30/09/2022.

Patrice Motsepe (RSA), president of the Confederation of African Football, travelled to Conakry (GUI) to meet with Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya, "Guinea transition President" (in power, following a coup, since 05/09/2021) and inform him of CAF's decision on 30/09/2022 "due to the infrastructure and facilities in Guinea not being ready to host a world class AFCON competition."

"What I can assure you is that we will not choose a country that is not at an adequate level to meet our quality standards. I encourage Algeria to bid to host AFCON 2025. This country has a long history behind it, it is an anomaly that Algeria has not organised an Africa Cup of Nations for more than 30 years (1990)," said Patrice Motsepe during a meeting of the CAF executive committee, in Algiers (ALG), during which the bidding process was reopened on 01/10/2022…
