"Football is sick, especially in Europe. It is losing its leadership in the world. There is a lot of data to support this. The most worrying fact is that young people are less and less interested. This is a trend that we have a duty to reverse before it's too late," said Florentino Pérez, president of Real Madrid CF (LaLiga Santander), during the club's general assembly of representative members on 02/10/2022.

"Only three football clubs are in the Top 20 of the Forbes ranking of most valuable sports teams, and none in the Top 10. While in the past, football and Real Madrid were at the top of this ranking, we have been overtaken by 12 American clubs from different sports. The global trend is not debatable: something must be going very well in the United States and something must be going very badly in old Europe," added the Madrid president, a fervent supporter of the Super League project, which he continues to work on alongside Andrea Agnelli, president of Juventus FC (Serie A TIM).
