Disaster in Indonesia: messages of condolences and sympathy from the world of football

"On behalf of the AFC and the Asian football family, I send our heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the victims, while expressing our speedy recovery wishes to the fans who have been injured in the incident and support to the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) and the clubs," said Sheikh Salman Bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa (BHR), president of the Asian Football Confederation, on 02/10/2022, in the aftermath of the death of at least 125 people at the end of an Indonesian top flight (Liga 1) match between Arema FC and Persebaya Surabaya (2-3) at the Kanjuruhan Stadium in the city of Malang, Indonesia, on 01/10/2022.

"The thoughts and prayers of the Asian football family are with the football family of Indonesia during this very difficult moment," added the AFC.

At least 125 dead (including 32 children) and nearly 300 injured, is the provisional toll (as of 03/10/2022) of the tragedy that occurred at the end of the Arema FC - Persebaya Surabaya match.
