Serbia - Albania match suspended following the intrusion of a drone, "inexcusable" (M. Platini)

The Serbia - Albania match (Group I of qualification for Euro 2016) was stopped and suspended following the intrusion of a drone displaying the Albanian flag in the Partizan stadium (Belgrade, Serbia) on 14/10/2014. Invasions onto the pitch by spectators and clashes between Serb and Albanian players erupted following this incident.

"A match report will be submitted to the Disciplinary Committee of UEFA (Union of European Football Associations)," said the European body on 14/10/2014. "Football is supposed to bring people together, and our game should not be mixed with politics of any kind. The scenes in Belgrade last night were inexcusable," said Michel Platini, president of UEFA, on 15/10/2014.

  • Olsi Rama, brother of the Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, was arrested after the encounter and is suspected of having flown the drone, said the Serbian public broadcaster RTS on 14/10/2014.
    • Olsi Rama denied any involvement in the incident on 15/10/2014.
