Women's Rugby World Cup 2021: sonic trophy to be awarded by Mastercard for each Player of the Match

Mastercard, an American company specialised in payment solutions, has activated its partnership with World Rugby and has launched "the world's first sonic trophy" for the Women's Rugby World Cup 2021 in New Zealand, from 08/10 to 12/11/2022, announced the international rugby body on 07/10/2022.

"The highly-coveted sonic trophy uniquely captures live-action audio from each game, live match commentary and fan reactions, and will be presented to one winning recipient from each of the 26 matches, establishing a new precedent for celebrating the Player of the Match long after the match has ended," explained World Rugby.

Mastercard has been a partner of World Rugby since 2011. The group is notably committed to women's rugby until 2025. In the run-up to the Women's World Cup 2021, Mastercard has introduced its new brand ambassadors Maggie Alphonsi (ENG), Portia Woodman (NZL) and Safi N'Diaye (FRA) as well as a digital content programme dedicated to female athletes to "encourage women and girls to play and watch sport" on 07/10/2021.
