Tennis: agreement between the ATP & ITF to abolish the ATP Cup and consolidate the Davis Cup (press)

The Association of Tennis Professionals, organiser of the men's world professional tennis circuit, and the International Tennis Federation are expected to sign an agreement to abolish the ATP Cup, "the World Cup of Tennis", from 2023 onwards, according to British media outlet BBC Sport on 12/10/2022. The official announcement should be made at the end of October 2022.

The competition which pitted the men's national teams against each other will thus disappear after only three years of existence. The ATP Cup was launched in 2019 in partnership with the Tennis Australia (the Australian tennis federation) to counter the new Davis Cup project, which was at the time led by the ITF and its new partner Kosmos, a company founded by Gérard Piqué (ESP), as part of a $3bn (€2.4bn) investment plan over 25 years.

The two international bodies are expected to confirm the Davis Cup's place on the 2023 calendar (three weeks in total), with a qualifying round scheduled for February, a group phase in September and then the final phase in November (as in 2022).
