Qatar 2022: FIFA looking at ways to compensate workers who are victims work-related accidents

"We are looking at ways to ensure that all victims of work-related accidents can be compensated. However, these reforms are not easy to implement. It takes thought, it takes structure, it takes rules, it takes governance, but it is certainly something that we want to move forward with," said Alasdair Bell, deputy general secretary at FIFA, during a parliamentary hearing at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg (FRA) on 13/10/2022.

"Alasdair Bell spoke during a hearing on 'Sports governance and social rights: the protection of workers' rights in Qatar', organised jointly by the Committee on Culture, Science, Education & Media and the Committee on Social Affairs, Health & Sustainable Development of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE)," said FIFA.

The debates are being led by Lord George Foulkes (GBR), rapporteur to the Council of Europe for a report on football governance discussed on 26/01/2022 (document available to download).
