France/TF1 & Canal+ distribution dispute: Court of Appeal confirms decision in favour of Canal+

The Paris Court of Appeal has confirmed the Paris Commercial Court's decision issued on 22/09/2022, which authorises the pay and free-TV group Canal+ not to broadcast the channels of the free-TV group TF1 via its satellite offer TNT Sat, on 20/10/2022.

"The Canal+ group is still open to negotiations on the distribution of the TF1 group's free channels and remains ready to remunerate the latter only for the value-added services associated with these channels, on a fair, balanced and transparent basis. As soon as an agreement on these bases has been reached, the Canal+ group will immediately restore the broadcasting of the TF1 group's free channels on the DTT Sat offer," said the group on 20/10/2022.

"The TF1 group is studying the legal consequences it could apply to this decision. The TF1 group strongly regrets this situation initiated by the Canal+ group, which deprives French households located in rural areas of quality information, major dramas and family entertainment and major sporting events, in particular the matches of the French football team," said TF1.
