2022-23 NBA: 3.3 million viewers (+17%) in the USA watched the opening night on TNT

The opening night of the 2022-23 NBA season, with the broadcast of the two games Boston Celtics - Philadelphia Sixers (126-117) and Golden State Warriors - Los Angeles Lakers (123-109), drew an average of 3.3 million viewers on the US pay-TV channel TNT (Turner Group, owned by Warner Bros. Discovery), an increase of 17% compared to the 2021-22 season, according to data from the US audience measurement institute Nielsen.

This is the best audience for an opening night since 2017. The figure also represents a 6.2% audience share, up 32% from the opening night of the 2021-22 NBA season (4.7%).

The first game of the night, Boston Celtics - Philadelphia Sixers, drew an average of 2.98 million viewers on TNT, up 36% from last season's opener (2.2 million viewers for Brooklyn Nets - Milwaukee Bucks). Golden State Warriors - Los Angeles Lakers, the other game of the opening night, drew an average of 3.55 million viewers on TNT, up 4% from the same game at the start of the 2021-22 season.
