Formula 1: Disney (ESPN) extends broadcasting rights in the US until 2025 ($75m to $90m per year)

The Walt Disney Company, parent company of the American sports channel ESPN, has extended its full and exclusive rights to broadcast Formula 1 in the US until 2025, announced Formula One Group on the occasion of the 2022 United States Grand Prix in Austin (Texas), on 22/10/2022. ESPN has held the broadcasting rights to F1 in the country since 2018.

The Grands Prix will continue to be broadcast on The Walt Disney Company's ESPN (pay-TV) and ABC (free-TV) channels. "At least 16 races will air on ABC and ESPN each season, more than in each of the previous five years since F1 returned to ESPN Networks in 2018, and all race broadcasts on ABC, ESPN and ESPN2 will continue the commercial-free presentation used over the past five seasons," said Formula One Group.

Three Grands Prix will be held in the United States from 2023: in Austin (Texas), Miami (Florida) and Las Vegas (Nevada).

Disney has reportedly extended the rights for $75m to $90m (€71.3m to €85.5m) per season which is 15 times more than the current deal for the 2019-2022 cycle ($5m, or €4.75m), according to US media reports on…
