60% of French people plan to watch the 2022 World Cup, according to an exclusive survey by the market research institute Harris Interactive, on behalf of RMC, published on 20/10/2022. By contrast, one month before the 2018 World Cup in Russia, this figure was only 50%.

The 22nd FIFA World Cup will kick off on Sunday 20/11/2022 at 17:00 CET with the opening match between Qatar and Ecuador (Group A) at the Al Bayt Stadium in Al-Khor (QAT). The first-ever World Cup to be held in both the Middle East and in November/December, promises to be unprecedented in every way and has generated much controversy among the public due to its carbon footprint and the treatment of workers on the tournament's facilities.

There have been numerous calls for a boycott in France in recent weeks, particularly from municipalities such as Lille, Strasbourg, Marseille, Paris and Lyon, which are refusing to provide fan zones with big screens as is usually the case for such an event, albeit one that is normally held in early summer.
