Spain: Mediapro to create an OTT channel dedicated to the 2022 World Cup (€19.99; one-time payment)

Mediapro will create "Gol Mundial", an OTT channel in Spain dedicated to the 2022 World Cup which will be available for €19.99 (one-time payment), announced the Spanish audiovisual group on 25/10/2022.

Mediapro had acquired the broadcasting rights to the 2022 World Cup from FIFA on 18/01/2019. The Spanish group then sold rights via sub-licensing agreements with the Spanish public broadcasting group RTVE and the telecommunications operator Telefonica (Movistar).

RTVE acquired the free-to-air broadcasting rights (all of Spain's matches, the opening match, one match from each group, four Round of 16 matches, two quarter-finals, the semi-finals and the final) for a sum of €35m, according to several Spanish media, on 25/02/2022.

Telefonica acquired the non-exclusive pay-TV rights on 17/10/2022.
