Sportel 2022: "It is not true that young people are not following sports" (Javier Tebas, LaLiga)

"A few weeks ago, leaders of the European Super League project stated that young people are no longer watching football, and they are now saying that they meant live football. It is not true and there is a need to debunk this myth. It is not true that young people are not following sports and especially football. We have to understand what is real and what is not, what is fake news or not. What they said is fake," said Javier Tebas, president of LaLiga, in the keynote "Debunking myths : how today's fans follow football" at Sportel Monaco 2022, on 25/10/2022.

"Today, young people consume more football than ever before. Organisations must be prepared so that when these people become financially independent, they will spend part of their salary on paid football or sports consumption. People are growing with LaLiga. The key is that they have to be economically independent. If you don’t have money to pay and watch football on television, then you are not going to watch it. That’s why economic independence have to come."
