Spain/Copa del Rey: Telefonica acquires pay-TV broadcasting rights for the 2022-2025 cycle

The telecommunications operator Telefonica has acquired the Spanish broadcasting rights to the Copa del Rey for its pay-TV package Movistar and has also extended its rights to the Supercopa de España for the 2022-2025 cycle, announced the RFEF on 02/11/2022.

These rights have been acquired for a sum of just under €14m per year, according to Spanish media. Movistar will broadcast the entire Spanish Supercup, and will show at least 55 Copa del Rey matches per season (including the semi-finals and final), 45 of which will be exclusive.

The public group RTVE recently acquired the rights to broadcast 15 Copa del Rey matches per season (Lot 1B) in Spain over the 2022-2025 cycle, on 03/10/2022. RTVE will broadcast two matches per round, as well as the semi-final first and second legs and the final. The RFEF was asking for a minimum of €14.1m per season for this lot, a figure that has been reached according to Spanish media.
