Qatar 2022: "We ask that fans respect our laws" (M. Bin A. Al Thani, Minister of Foreign Affairs)

"Our people are very accommodating and the whole world is welcome here. All we ask is that the fans respect our laws, just as we are expected to respect your laws when we come to your country," said Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs for Qatar, to the French daily newspaper Le Monde on 05/11/2022, i.e. 15 days before the opening match of the 2022 World Cup (Qatar - Ecuador at the Al Bayt Stadium in Al-Khor on Sunday 20/11/2022, kick-off at 17:00 CET).

"The reasons given for boycotting the World Cup (mainly related to the working conditions of migrant workers and the ecological costs) do not hold water. There is a lot of hypocrisy in these attacks, which ignore all that we have achieved.
