Spain: RTVE acquires free-to-air rights to the 2022-23 & 2023-24 Champions League finals

RTVE has acquired the free-to-air broadcasting rights in Spain to the Champions League final for the 2022-23 and 2023-24 editions, announced the Spanish public broadcasting group on 07/11/2022.

These free-to-air rights were acquired under sublicense from the Spanish telecommunications operator Telefonica, which holds all the broadcasting rights in Spain, for its pay-TV subsidiary Movistar, to the Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League over the 2021-2024 cycle for a sum of €975m, i.e. €325m per season.

RTVE had already acquired, under the same sublicensing agreement with Telefonica, the free-to-air TV rights to the 2021-22 Champions League final on 14/02/2022. This was the first time since 2015 that RTVE had broadcast a Champions League final and the first time since 2018 that a free-to-air channel had broadcast the final in Spain.
