Qatar 2022: FIFA teams up with four Web3 startups to deliver gamified experiences

FIFA is accelerating its Web3 strategy by collaborating with metaverse and blockchain startups Uplandme, Matchday, Phygtl and AI League, to deliver four gamified digital experiences for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar from 20/11 to 18/12/2022, announced the body on 09/11/2022.

"This is a hugely exciting group of partnerships that we've entered into as we embrace a new, digitally-native football fan and engage with them in the spaces that we know they are already active within. As we continue to build our gaming strategy long into future, it's certain that web 3.0 will have an important role to play, and this marks the start of our journey," said Romy Gai, chief business officer at FIFA.

FIFA took its first steps into Web3 by partnering with Roblox to launch "FIFA World", FIFA's first metaverse platform, on 12/10/2022. FIFA World is a virtual environment where users with their avatars can earn rewards and collect virtual items through challenges and games.
