"Italy lacks the political will to hold sporting events" (L. De Siervo, Lega Serie A)

"Our country does not lack the ability to build stadiums, it lacks the political will, but I am sure that Minister Abodi, has the competence, relationships and motivation that will unblock this situation, which is a colossal problem because our country will not be able to host any sporting events if it does not first have the strength to cut through the bureaucratic red tape that is plaguing clubs and cities," said Luigi De Siervo, CEO of the Lega Serie A, during a radio programme "La politica nel pallone" on the Italian public radio station, RAI, on 21/11/2022.

Italy has submitted a bid to host Euro 2032, announced UEFA on 16/11/2022. The only other candidate is Turkey, which is aiming for either Euro 2028 or the 2032 edition. The deadline for the submission of the final bid dossiers is 12/04/2023. In autumn 2023, the European Confederation will designate the hosts for 2028 and 2032, while Euro 2024 will be held in Germany.
