Facial recognition: introduction of "FAN ID" technology at all Liga MX stadiums (D1 & D2, Mexico)

Liga BBVA MX and the American identity verification and biometric authentication platform, Incode, have announced an agreement to introduce facial recognition technology "FAN ID" in all Mexican football championship stadiums on 21/11/2022. The exact date of introduction has not been communicated.

This "Incode's fully automated, encrypted technology is based on AI and offers high levels of trust, security, and data privacy. FAN ID will authenticate a fan in less than five seconds, help ensure stadiums are safe spaces for fans and families and will create more connected, seamless experiences across the entire stadium," explained the company. The agreement comes a few months after a brawl that left 22 people injured during the Querétaro FC - CF Atlas match, which led to the suspension of an entire matchday of the Mexican championship in early March 2022.

The company claims to be able to manage the entry of an average of 50,000 spectators for the 400 matches played each year in more than 30 stadiums in Mexico in the first and second divisions. In addition, FAN ID will link spectators to…
