Formula 1: Mattia Binotto (ITA) resigns as team principal of Scuderia Ferrari

Italian Mattia Binotto (53) is stepping down as team principal of Scuderia Ferrari (Formula 1), announced the Italian manufacturer on 29/11/2022. His resignation will be effective on 31/12/2022.

Mattia Binotto has been with the Italian team since 1995, and has held the position of "team principal" since 07/01/2019. He had succeeded fellow Italian Maurizio Arrivabene, in post since 24/11/2014. "The process is underway to identify Scuderia Ferrari’s new team principal and is expected to be finalised in the new year," said Scuderia Ferrari. This could include Frenchman Frédéric Vasseur, the current team team manager of Alfa Romeo F1 Team Orlen.

"After challenging 2020 and 2021 seasons" and a promising start in 2022, thanks to the new power unit regulations that came into effect at the start of the season, the Italian team's results have been "derailed through a combination of unreliability, strategy mix-ups and driver mistakes - along with rival Red Bull's relentlessness," explained Formula One Group.
