Rugby: Ieuan Evans succeeds Rob Butcher as chairman of the Welsh Rugby Union

Ieuan Evans (58) has been elected chairman of the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) on 28/11/2022. The former Welsh international (1987-1998) succeeds Rob Butcher, who held office between 2020 and 2022, and becomes the sixth WRU chair since 1993.

"The WRU's new figurehead was elected as a national council member of the WRU in 2020 and immediately elected onto the board. He has served as vice-chair since 2021," said the body. Ieuan Evans will continue in his role as chairman of the British & Irish Lions (a rugby union team composed of the best players from England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland), a position he has held since 2020. He has also been a member of the World Rugby Council since 2020.
