MLS: clubs reach 19,148 in average attendance in 2014 (+2.9%), new league record

At the end of the 2014 regular season, MLS (Major League Soccer, USA-CAN) clubs achieved a record average attendance of 19,148 spectators per match (in 323 total matches), as of the end of the league's regular season on 26/10/2014. This number is up 2.9% compared to 2013 (18,608 spectators per match).

The MLS clubs attained an average stadium fill rate of 90.8% in 2014. Seattle Sounders FC led the league in average attendance with 43,734 spectators per match (-0.7% for the club compared to 2013; 44,038 per match). The Seattle Sounders have led the league in average attendance for six straight years since the club's expansion entry into MLS in 2009. Chivas USA were last in the league in average attendance for the third straight year, with 7,063 average spectators per match in 2014).

  • The US Soccer license and MLS franchise rights of Chivas USA will be sold to a new ownership group, and a new MLS expansion franchise based in Los Angeles (California) will be launched in 2017.
