Serie A TIM/Italy: two amendments proposed to extend the duration of TV rights from 3 to 5 years

Two amendments to the Melandri law have been tabled by three senators from the Forza Italia political party (including Claudio Lotito, president of Serie A TIM club SS Lazio) and Daniele Manca, member of the Democratic Party, to extend the maximum duration of broadcasting rights contracts for Italian competitions from three to five years, according to Italian media reports on 04/12/2022.

Should these amendments be adopted, they could take place during the current Serie A TIM TV rights cycle (2021-2024), according to Italian press. This would allow the OTT platform DAZN and the pay-TV operator Sky Italia, broadcasters of Serie A TIM during the period, to extend their TV rights to the Italian league for up to two years and thus broadcast the competition until the end of the 2025-26 season.
