United Kingdom: a record 325 million hours of women's sport watched from January to October 2022

325 million hours of women's sport were watched from January to October 2022 in the UK, the highest total ever recorded in the territory (246 million in 2019 and 19.1 million in 2012), according to a study by the Women's Sport Trust published on 06/12/2022.

"Part of this growth could be down to the growth in coverage of women's sport - 17% of sports coverage on key channels so far this year has been for women’s sport, compared to 3% in 2012," explained the organisation.

Other figures reported by the Women's Sport Trust include:

• 7,450 hours of  women's sport coverage has been recorded on linear television since the start of 2022 in the UK, compared to 3,456 hours in 2019 and 673 in 2012;

• Football accounted for 77% of women's sport coverage in 2022, up from 86% in 2019;

• 43 million people watched at least 3 minutes of women's sport on linear TV in 2022 in the UK, compared to 46 million in 2019 and 20.1 million in 2012;

• 38% of viewers who watched women's sport in 2022 in the UK were women.
