2022-23 Barclays Women's Super League: an average of 6,000 spectators/day, +200% vs December 2021

"We are currently averaging almost 6,000 fans a week in the Barclays Women's Super League (2022-23) as we go into the final league fixtures of 2022 - which is up over 200% on this time last year," said Kelly Simmons, director of the women's professional game at The Football Association (The FA), on 09/12/2022.

"Since the season commenced, we have seen almost 300,000 spectators attend matches across the Barclays Women's Super League. This just highlights how much appetite there is for world-class women's league football," said Simmons, five months after the end of the Women's Euro 2022 tournament held in England and won by the hosts. The Barclays Women's Championship (2nd division) has also benefit from this momentum with an 85% increase in average attendance.

The record attendance for a top flight match was set on 24/09/2022 with 47,367 spectators attending the Arsenal FC - Tottenham Hotspur FC (4-0) match at the Emirates Stadium (London, ENG).
