FIFA: McDonald's continues its partnership with the World Cup until 2022

The American fast food chain McDonald's has extended its partnership with FIFA (Federation Internationale de Football Association) for sponsorship of the World Cup until 2022, announced the international body on 24/10/2014. The contract is estimated at between €20m and €25m per year.

The agreement also includes the status of official partner of the 2017 (Russia) and 2021 (Qatar) Confederations Cups. McDonald's has been a partner of FIFA since the 1994 World Cup in the United States. The American brand has helped more than 1500 children worldwide walk with the players onto the pitches of the 2014 World Cup via the brand's "Player Escort" programme. This programme will be continued for the 2018 World Cup in Russia and 2022 in Qatar.

The progression of FIFA's marketing revenues

  • The marketing revenues of FIFA should exceed €300m in 2014. The various partnerships contracted for the 2011-2014 period should enable the international federation to exceed €1.1bn euros of commercial revenue over the period, a 39% increase compared with the 2007-2010 period, which generated €791m.
