FIFA: $622.8m (€584.8m) paid to intermediaries during international transfers in 2022 (+24.3%)

Clubs paid at total of $622.8m (€584.8m) to intermediaries in the transfer market in 2022, according to the annual Intermediaries in International Transfers report published by FIFA on 15/12/2022 (document available to download). This is an increase of 24.3% compared to 2021 ($500.8m/€442.4m) and "only 4.9% less than the record level of spending on intermediary service fees set in 2019 ($654.7m/€588.5m)," announced the international Federation.

1,532 of the 17,240 international transfers registered in the FIFA Transfer Matching System (TMS) between 01/01 and 12/12/2022 involved an intermediary representing a buying club in 2022, "representing a stark increase of 22.4% in comparison to 2021 and the highest total ever. Service fees paid to intermediaries representing the engaging club also reached a new all-time high ($450.1m/€422.6m), surpassing the previous record set in 2019 ($425.6m/€382.6m)," explained the body.

European clubs accounted for 96.2% of the €584.8m in commissions paid to intermediaries, with clubs from six leagues responsible for 80.9% of the total sum:
