Bundesliga: Borussia Dortmund, Germany's most popular club for the first time in 2022 (study SLC)

Borussia Dortmund (Bundesliga) is the most popular club in Germany in 2022, according to a study by SLC Management (GER) published on 12/12/2022.

This is the first time that the Dortmund club has taken the top spot in the ranking. Since its inception in 2015, FC Bayern Munich, second in 2022, had always held the top spot. Eintracht Frankfurt complete the podium for this latest edition. Hertha BSC, eighth in 2021, dropped seven places to 15^th.

The study, based on the opinions of "more than 30,000 football fans", uses 18 different criteria to determine the popularity of clubs. A third of these criteria are based on objective elements: visibility abroad, number of spectators at the stadium, presence on social media, number of fan clubs and members, and sponsorship contracts. The other criteria, chosen with a panel of 6,500 fans, are subjective, such as their marketing appeal, family services at the stadium, CSR policy and the strength of the club's identity.
