Qatar 2022: "The final victory of an African team in a World Cup is within reach" (P. Motsepe, CAF)

"The 54 African countries who are members of CAF are extremely proud and inspired by the victories and successes of the five African Nations (Morocco, Senegal, Cameroon, Tunisia and Ghana) that represented CAF at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Our objective of ensuring that an African Nation wins the FIFA World Cup is alive and within reach," said Patrice Motsepe (RSA), president of the Confederation of African Football, on 21/12/2022.

"We are also particularly proud of Morocco’s historic qualification to the semi-finals. It is the first time in the history of the World Cup that an African Nation has qualified for the semi-finals," added the CAF president.

Morocco was defeated by France (2-0) in the semi-final on 14/12/2022 and finished fourth after losing to Croatia (2-1) in the match for third place on 17/12/2022.
