Aston Villa FC: Birmingham City Council grants planning permission for Villa Park extension

Birmingham City Council (England) has granted planning permission for phase one of the redevelopment and expansion of Villa Park (Birmingham, UK), announced Aston Villa FC (Premier League), resident club of the stadium, on 22/12/2022.

In March 2022, the Birmingham club announced its intention to expand and renovate Villa Park by creating around 7,400 new seats, bringing the capacity of the stadium to more than 50,000 (compared to 42,657 currently). The project also includes improved accessibility to the stadium and the creation of "Villa Live", a "standalone multi-use entertainment, community, and retail venue." The works are expected to start at the end of 2023 and be completed by the end of 2025. The cost of the first phase of construction, dedicated to the stadium and Villa Live, is estimated at £100m (€119m) by the club.
