Golf/PGA Tour: renegotiation of international media rights with Warner Bros. Discovery from 2023

Media and entertainment conglomerate Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) and the PGA Tour are renegotiating their agreement for the international broadcasting rights to the North American men's professional golf tour from 2023, according to a letter sent by both entities to broadcasters on 02/01/2023.

The Discovery+ streaming platform and the Eurosport pay-TV group's channels (owned by WBD) will continue to broadcast the tour in Latin American and European markets, according to the letter. However, the PGA Tour will re-market the broadcast rights in Asia, Africa, Australia, New Zealand and areas of Europe and Latin America not covered by Discovery+ and Eurosport. The duration of the new agreement was not communicated.

Warner Bros. Discovery had initially acquired the international rights, outside the USA, to the PGA Tour for the 2019-2030 cycle on 04/06/2018. The deal, worth a total of $2bn (€1.9bn) over 12 years, allowed WBD to sublicense the rights in more than 220 territories, and included the creation of the international OTT platform Golf TV (launched in January 2019 and eventually…
