UEFA: Aleksander Ceferin, sole presidential candidate at the Lisbon Congress, 05/04/2023

UEFA received only one application for the post of president of the European confederation by the deadline of Thursday 05/01/2023 (three months to the day before the elective congress scheduled to take place in Lisbon on 05/04/2023) and it was that of the current president Aleksander Ceferin (Slovenia), who is thus seeking a new four-year mandate (2023-2027), announced the body on 06/01/2023.

Aleksander Ceferin became UEFA president at the 12^th Extraordinary Congress in Athens (Greece) on 14/09/2016. He received 42 votes against 13 for Dutchman Michael van Praag in the first round of voting, before being re-elected by acclamation at the European Confederation's 43^rd Ordinary Congress in Rome (ITA) on 07/02/2019. President of the Football Association of Slovenia from 2011 to 2016, the lawyer had succeeded Michel Platini (FRA).
