UEFA: Aleksander Ceferin, sole presidential candidate at the Lisbon Congress, 05/04/2023

UEFA received only one application for the post of president of the European confederation by the deadline of Thursday 05/01/2023 (three months to the day before the elective congress scheduled to take place in Lisbon on 05/04/2023) and it was that of the current president Aleksander Ceferin (Slovenia), who is thus seeking a new four-year mandate (2023-2027), announced the body on 06/01/2023.

Aleksander Ceferin became UEFA president at the 12th Extraordinary Congress in Athens (Greece) on 14/09/2016. He received 42 votes against 13 for Dutchman Michael van Praag in the first round of voting, before being re-elected by acclamation at the European Confederation's 43rd Ordinary Congress in Rome (ITA) on 07/02/2019. President of the Football Association of Slovenia from 2011 to 2016, the lawyer had succeeded Michel Platini (FRA).

For his part, Noël Le Graët, president of the French Football Federation (FFF), is standing for re-election as an ordinary member of the FIFA Council (also for a four-year term) among the six UEFA representatives. He will be opposed by Fernando Gomes, president…
