Tennis: record prize money of €49.1m for the Australian Open in 2023 (+3.4% compared to 2022)

The prize money for the 2023 Australian Open Tennis Championships Grand Slam will reach a record AU$76.5m (€49.1m), an increase of 3.4% compared to 2022 (AU$74m/€46.4m as of 30/01/2022), announced tournament organiser Tennis Australia on 29/12/2022. The 2023 edition of the Australian Open will be held at Melbourne Park from 16 to 29/01/2023.

This total is 22.4% higher than in 2019 (AU$62.5m/€39.3m), the last edition to be held without attendance restrictions due to the covid-19 pandemic before 2023. The overall prize money has increased fourfold in 20 editions of the tournament (2003: AU$18.18m/€9.9m) and 2.5 times in 10 editions (2013: AU$30m/€23.2m).

The singles winners (women's and men's) will take home AU$2.975m (€1.89m), up 3.4% from the AU$2.875m (€1.8m) awarded to each winner in 2022.

• Tennis Australia will pay more than AU$100m (€64.2m) for the 2023 Australian Open, the first edition of the United Cup (AU$15m/€9.6m) and the ATP and WTA tournaments organised on its territory in December 2022 and January 2023 (in Adelaide, Auckland and Hobart).
