Cristiano Ronaldo: "His contract does not entail commitments to any World Cup bids" (Al Nassr FC)

"Al Nassr FC would like to clarify that contrary to news reports, Cristiano Ronaldo's contract with Al Nassr does not entail commitments to any World Cup bids. His main focus is on Al Nassr and to work with his teammates to help the club achieve success," said the Saudi club on 10/01/2023.

This statement comes after the publication of several press articles which claim that the contract binding the 37-year-old Portuguese to Al Nassr since 30/12/2022, estimated to be worth €200m per year until June 2025, would contain a clause implying additional income for the player in case of support for the potential Saudi Arabia-Egypt-Greece bid to host the 2030 World Cup.

This bid would compete with those of Spain, Portugal and Ukraine, as well as with another bid involving Argentina, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay. FIFA is expected to designate the host countries for the 2030 World Cup in 2024.
