The organisers of Euro 2016 (France, 10/06 to 10/07/2016) will be exempt from any taxes, including VAT, stated the French newspaper Les Echos on 03/11/2014.

This tax exemption is justified by "the economic benefits expected from the Euro tournament to the French economy," said the business daily, which states that the measure is provided for in the bill which includes the supplementary budget for 2014, which should be submitted to the Council of Ministers on 12/11/2014.

This tax exemption is actually a written commitment by the French State, and was included in the application for organising this competition submitted to UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) on 15/02/2010. France was awarded the organisation of Euro 2016 on 28/05/2014. This type of tax exemption, fairly common for this types of events, would also not be specific to Euro 2016, but also apply to other international competitions that France will host in the coming years.
