Wales: an agreement for "equal pay" for the women's & men's national football teams

An agreement has been reached with the Welsh men's and women's national teams "to achieve equal pay" for players' pay and bonuses, announced the Football Association of Wales on 18/01/2023.

"The FAW is a modern, progressive movement that seeks to improve each day. This is another step towards becoming one of the world's great sports organisations and we thank both the men's and women's squads for their brilliant co-operation in getting this agreed," said Noel Mooney, chief executive officer of the Football Association of Wales.

The agreement "covers the period up to and including the 2026 FIFA World Cup (co-hosted by Canada, the United States and Mexico) and the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup (the host country has not yet been named)," said the FAW. This measure of equality already applies to the Australian, Brazilian, American and Spanish federations in particular.

While the sums paid by the FAW to the women's players will be identical to those paid to the players, this will not be the case for the bonuses from the UEFA or FIFA grants, for which only the percentage redistributed will be…
