Rugby: Bernard Laporte (FFR president) in police custody for aggravated tax fraud laundering (press)

Bernard Laporte, president of the Fédération Française de Rugby (French Rugby Federation), whose board and executive committee he has temporarily left, has been "placed in police custody today in a case of aggravated tax fraud laundering," according to the French sports daily L'Équipe on its website on 24/01/2023.

"Two other people have also been placed in custody. This case, completely separate from the one that led him to the Paris criminal court in September 2022, is in the hands of the National Financial Prosecutor. A preliminary investigation was opened in August 2020 and entrusted to the French Financial Judicial Investigation Service (SEJF)," said L'Équipe.

Following his conviction by the 32^nd chamber of the Paris Commercial Court on 13/12/2022 for passive corruption, influence peddling and illegal interest taking, Bernard Laporte decided to follow "to the letter the injunction to leave his functions" by the FFR Ethics Committee on 19/12/2022.
