Formula 1: Liberty Media reminds FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem of the limits of his powers

"The circumstances in which the FIA would have any role in a change of control of the F1 group are very limited. The FIA has given unequivocal undertakings that it will not do anything to prejudice the ownership, management and/or exploitation of those rights. The remarks made from the FIA president's official social media account, interfere with our rights in an unacceptable manner and overstep the bounds of the FIA's remit," said Liberty Media's legal department in a letter to the FIA, reported by the BBC on 24/01/2023.

The American company, owner of Formula One Group, reacted to the comments of Mohammed Ben Sulayem (UAE), president of the FIA, concerning an offer to buy Formula One made by the Public Investments Fund (PIF, Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund), amounting to $20bn (€18.38m) and rejected by Liberty Media "at the beginning of 2022", according to information from the American economic and financial information website Bloomberg on 20/01/2023.
